On the morning of September 28th, scholars from Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASHIPS) were invited to conduct academic exchange activities. Wen-Qing Liu, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, researcher of the CASHIPS, chief Scientist of Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM), gave an academic report entitled "New Progress in Atmospheric Stereoscopic Monitoring Technology ". Xiao-Bing Zheng, researcher of the CASHIPS, deputy director of the AIOFM, gave an academic report entitled "High-precision Optical Radiometry and Space Radiation Reference". The report was held in Room 211, Sir Run Run Shaw Science Building, Yuquan Campus, Zhejiang University and hosted by Prof. Xu Liu, director of the State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instrumentation (MOI).
Wen-Qing Liu gave a profound perspective on the latest developments in theatmospheric stereoscopic monitoring technology. Based on the situation of China's atmospheric pollution patterns and characteristics, Liu analyzed the problems and challenges in atmospheric environmentChina has to face, and proposed the unique advantages and significance of optical monitoring in environmental detection technology. On this basis, combined with specific examples, Liu introduced the modern optical monitoring technology in detail, such as the Active/Passive Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS), Active/Passive Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS) and Lidar Environmental Monitoring (Lidar). Finally, Considering the national strategy on environment, Liu put forward his expectation on future development of optical technology in environmental monitoring.
Later, Xiao-Bing Zheng introduced the importance of high-precision optical radiometry in the field of optical measurement and quantitative assessment of climate in simple language. He vividly analyzed the problems and challenges faced by high-precision optical radiometry and described the development and application of precision optical instruments such as Absolute Cryogenic Radiometers and Trap Detectors. Then Zheng introduced the China Space Radiation Reference Plan and the innovative technologies of optical quantum radiation reference source compared by the on-board radiation technology. Finally, he strongly appealed to teachers and students present to try their best to conquer obstacles and hold it as the belief and responsibility”.
Immersed in a strong academic atmosphere, teachers and students present had further exchanges and discussions with Liu and Zheng on their problems and their interested research directions. This academic lecture broadened the horizons of teachers and students in atmospheric environmental monitoring and high-precision optical radiometry, so that the audience can understand the cutting-edge scientific progress in these field and stimulate the scientific research interests of young teachers and students.
After the report meeting, the MOI held a symposium to communicate with visiting experts from CASHIPS and AIOFM. Prof. Xu Liu, director of the MOI, introduced the basic situation of the laboratory and the recent representative achievements. Prof. Dong Liu, deputy director of the MOI, reported the development concept on research direction of Life and Environment Optical Detection Technology and Instruments. Jian-Guo Liu, deputy dean of the CASHIPS, introduced the basic situation of the CASHIPS and recent attainments. Pin-Hua Xie and Jin Hong, researches of AIOFM, put forward ideas and suggestions on joint training and scientific research cooperation. The communicative atmosphere is warm and interactive, which promotes the effective cooperation between college and research institutes.
